Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team was back in action on Saturday, Apr. 26 for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament quarterfinal match-up against Malone University. A late five game winning streak in conference play led to the Oilers earning home field advantage, along with the three seed in the tournament. The sixth seeded Pioneers proved to be no match for the Orange and Black, as Findlay would coast their way to a 14-2 victory. With the win, the Oilers raise their record to 8-10. Meanwhile, the Pioneers see their season end with a record of 10-9.
Despite the end result, the first quarter of play was tightly contested, as both goalies would record at least three saves to keep the scoring at a minimum. The Oilers would finally break through about halfway through the first, as
Rebecca Chmiel found the back of the net to give her team the 1-0 lead. Chmiel would record two more goals in this one, bringing her season goal total to 23.
With a little under three minutes remaining in the first quarter, it would be
Tessa Chuba getting on the board to extend the Findlay lead to two. The junior would also total three goals on the day and bring her season total to a team leading 54.
The rest of the contest would be all Oilers, as they would outscore the Pioneers 12-2 in the remaining three quarters of play. Joining Chuba and Chmiel was
Karissa Allbright, as she also finished her day with three goals scored. The sophomore would also finish with a team high five ground balls to finish off her solid day of work.
Cora West would join in on the scoring with two goals, while
Kaitlin Darby,
Kendra Stevens, and
Amelia Dillon all recorded one in the contest.
Caroline Weber was lockdown in between the posts for the Oilers, as in the first half of play she would only allow one goal and four saves on her way to earning the win.
Josie Owens would finish the job in the second half, recording one save during her time.
Findlay will be back in action on Tuesday, May 1 when they travel to Ashland for the tournament semifinals. They will be matched up with the two seeded Walsh Cavaliers, who earned a first round bye. The game will begin at 3 pm.
