Mason, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Thursday, May 8 for their second game of the Great Midwest Athletic Tournament (G-MAC) Tournament. After suffering a loss against Hillsdale last night, the Oilers matched up against eighth seeded Tiffin University in the Pool B consolation bracket in a win or go home scenario. In a three and a half hour affair, Findlay would fall by a score of 14-7, ending their season. The Orange and Black end their season with a record of 24-27.
With the season on the line, it would be the Oilers who would get on the board first, as a single from
Garrett Given would bring home
Ryan Thompson to give them an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The game would remain scoreless until the top of the fifth, where a drama-filled inning, including an ejection handed out to the Tiffin head coach, led to four runs for the Dragons.
The Dragons would continue to build on their lead, including five runs in the top of the ninth to give them a 14-2 advantage. The Oilers would not go down without a fight, however, as
Luke Senften got them back on the board with a solo shot to start off the bottom of the ninth. Capping off the game was senior
Austin Adelman, who would drive a ball over the wall in left for a three run shot in the last at-bat of his collegiate career.
Leading the offense would be Senften and Adelman, who each recorded three hits in the game. Senften would finish with two runs scored and an RBI, while Adelman finished with one run scored and three RBIs.
This season marks the third consecutive in which the Oilers have reached the conference tournament. Before 2023, the program had not reached Prasco Park since 2018. The program continues trending upwards, looking to build on their success next season.
