Findlay, Ohio – After more than a decade of leadership at the helm of the men's tennis program at the University of Findlay, Doug Linden has decided to step down from his role as the head coach. He spent seven of those seasons coaching both the men's and women's programs.
"I want to thank Coach Linden for his years of commitment to the University of Findlay and both our men's and women's tennis teams", said Director of Athletics Jim Givens. "He has helped move the programs forward over the past 12 years and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
Since taking over the program in August of 2013, Linden led the Oilers' men to 123 wins, guiding the team to postseason appearances from the very beginning. In his first season, the Oilers picked up 12 wins and entered the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament as the seventh seed, ultimately going on to the tournament championship before being defeated by the top-seed and host, Northwood University.
That would be the first of nine trips to the conference postseason in 11 years during which postseason competition was held (none during the 2020 covid season). Those conference tournament appearances included five tournament championship appearances; 2014, 2019, 2021, 2024, and 2025.
Under Linden's guidance, the program made its' first-ever trip to the NCAA DII Tournament, earning the eight seed in the 2023-24 season.
Findlay players earned 31 all-conference awards during Linden's tenure as the head coach including 15 first team all-conference honors. He also coached the 2023-24 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Freshman of the Year and 2018-19 G-MAC Player of the Year. In 2021-22, Linden himself earned G-MAC Coach of the Year.
On the women's side, Linden led UF to 38 wins including a pair of conference tournament appearances. His players earned ten all-conference awards in that time including three first team honors and the 2018-19 Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year.
