The Game
The 124th team in Findlay football history will get the 2025 season started with another big-time non-conference affair. The Oilers welcome in the #17 University of Indianapolis Greyhounds to Donnell Stadium on Saturday, Sep. 6, a game that will kick off at noon. It is the third consecutive season that UF has taken on a GLVC title contender in the season-opener, the previous two being Truman State.

Findlay Oilers (0-0, 0-0 G-MAC)
2025 Findlay Football Coaching Staff
Once again, the Oilers find themselves in the discussion of competing for a G-MAC title. Coming in third in this year's preseason poll, the Orange and Black also received a first-place vote. Finishing just ahead of them in the poll are Ashland and Tiffin, who were the only two opponents to take down the Oilers last season. This year Findlay will look to get over the hump, and this begins with a week one matchup against nationally ranked Indianapolis.
Â
The Oilers will begin their fourth season under the helm of Head Coach
Kory Allen. For Coach Allen, 2025 marks his 20th year as a member of the coaching staff at Findlay. In his first three seasons as the head of the program, he has compiled an impressive 23-10 record.  The Oilers will look to build off this recent success and secure their first conference title since 2021.
Â
Findlay will have a new face at the quarterback position, as redshirt junior transfer
Chase Harrison gets the nod on opening day.  Harrison spent two years at Marshall University and one at Ball State University before ultimately transferring to Findlay. Harrison finished high school with very impressive numbers, before seeing limited time thus far in his collegiate career. A graduate of Centerville High School, he would finish his time there with 92 passing touchdowns and 8,816 yards. Harrison would also go on to be named AP All-Ohio and earn multiple prep All-American honors.
Â
Another in a long line of all-Americans on the offensive line has left the program in the form of
Yoesph Carter, but still in the trenches are a pair of all-conference performers and four of five starters from a season ago.
Te'Jamere Nash, a first team all-G-MAC pick in the last two years, is back at left tackle. He has been a stalwart on that side of the line, making 30 consecutive starts. Right tackle
Gavin Miller was a second-team pick last year and is joined on the line by fellow starter
Ethan Lane at left guard, and Byron Faith at center.
Nick Bormuth, a product of McComb High School, steps into the starting role at right tackle following the graduation of Carter, the league's Offensive Lineman of the Year last season.
Â
The receiving room will be led by seniors
Bryan Hunt and
Delon Hurt, who finished second and third respectively in receiving yards last season for the Oilers. Hunt finished the campaign with 527 yards on 36 catches for a team leading six touchdowns. Hurt, who originally transferred in from UCLA, finished with 498 yards on 37 catches, also hauling in four touchdown receptions.
Â
Leading the rushing attack is graduate student
Jayden Farmer, who comes back for his final year after receiving first team all G-MAC honors last season. Farmer finished 2024 with 662 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, both team highs. His best game would be against Thomas More, where he had 143 yards on 23 carries.
Â
Jayon Harvey is back for his second season in the Oilers' secondary after a debut season where he proved to be one of the best freshmen, not just in the G-MAC, but in the country. A second team all-G-MAC and second team D2CCA all-region selection, Harvey led the G-MAC with 16 passes defended last season, the most in the NCAA of any true freshman in the country regardless of division. His 5 PBU vs Thomas More were the most by a UF player since Chiebuka Chukwuneke had 5 against Northern Michigan in 2015. He ranked 6th in the country in passes defended. He also ranked third in the conference with 4 interceptions.
Â
Other key returners for the Oilers defense include
Sam Weihrauch and
Christion Stokes. Weihrauch earned second team all-conference honors last season, where he had a team high 74 tackles. He also recorded eight TFLs, including one sack. Stokes' once again pairs with teammate
Jayon Harvey to provide a lockdown secondary for Findlay. Last season he earned first team all-conference honors, recording three interceptions and four PBUs.

About the Opponent – Indianapolis Greyhounds (1-0, 0-0 GLVC)
One of the most successful athletic programs in the country, the University of Indianapolis again boasts a top-25 football program as the fall of 2025 gets underway. The Greyhounds have been a consistent presence at the top of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) standings, winning the conference championship in each of the past three years with a combined league record of 20-1. Each of those three seasons has ended in the first round of the NCAA DII Super Region 3 Playoff as UIndy has been matched up against title contenders Pittsburg State (2022 & 2023) and Grand Valley State (2024) in their postseason openers. With regional realignment taking place this past offseason, UIndy and Findlay now both call Super Region 3 home and both are looking to make an early statement with a renewed rivalry that has been dormant since 2011.
Â
A Week 0 opener for UIndy came on August 28 when the Greyhounds traveled 12 miles across Indianapolis to take on Marian University (NAIA) in what has been dubbed the "Monumental Matchup". The rivalry game, which had not been played since 2016, was called back into action with the recent ability for Week 0 contests to take place. UIndy dominated the Knights in what played out as a tune-up type affair. The first 31 points belonged to the visitors, which would go on to earn a 24-point victory. It was the sixth consecutive season-opening win for Indianapolis which started each of the last two seasons against the G-MAC's Hillsdale College.Â
Â
Making the offense go will be quarterback Gavin Sukup, one of the premier players in the region. Sukup is the two-time defending GLVC Offensive Player of the Year and has twice been nominated for the Harlon Hill Trophy. A preseason all-American pick by D2Football.com, Sukup led the College of DuPage to an NJCAA DIII National Championship in 2022 before heading to UIndy in 2023. Since joining the Greyhounds, he has thrown for 5,717 and 49 touchdowns while completing 65% of his passes. He has thrown just 12 interceptions.
Â
Protecting Sukup is a talented offensive line that returns a bulk of its star power from a year ago. Center Rhyne Buttz and right guard Brandon Stuckey were both first team all-conference selections last year while left guard Grant Ray and left tackle Tyler Leopold were second team picks.
Â
The top threat on the outside is wide receiver Anthony Crowell who is a two-time first team GLVC selection and was the 2023 GLVC Freshman of the Year. In just two full seasons at UIndy, 22 games played prior to 2025, Crowell has 76 receptions for 1,050 yards and seven scores. He also has 34 punt returns for 327 yards including a punt return for a touchdown against Southwest Baptist last November.
Â
Garrett Sherrell is the top back on the depth chart and began his sophomore campaign with two scores against Marian last week. An offense that last season ran the ball 60% of the time, Sherrell, and his counterpart Devin Nelson, will certainly be critical to the Greyhounds' success this season, as they look to open up the pass game for their standout quarterback.
Â
On the other side of the ball things look a little bit different in terms of accolades from last season. The Greyhounds surrendered just 16.5 points per game last year, the fewest in the league. Nine defenders for UIndy garnered first or second team all-GLVC honors as a result. Just one of those players is back for the 2025 campaign, defensive back Jalyn Givan. The redshirt senior, who began his career at Michigan Tech, has started 25 consecutive games for UIndy was also named a preseason all-American by D2Football.com. A second team all-GLVC pick last year, Givan led the conference in pass breakups in 2023 with eight and was tasked with shutting down opposing WR1's all season long.
