Women’s Basketball Cruises to Fourth Straight Win with Road Victory over Ursuline

Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team picked up a gritty road win on Saturday, Jan. 24, knocking off the Ursuline Arrows 72-64 at the Jane and Lee Seidman Gymnasium. Findlay set the tone early, controlling the pace of play and owning the paint while relying on balanced scoring and well-timed runs to pull away. The victory marks the Oilers' tenth of the season, improving them to 10-8 overall and 6-5 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action. Meanwhile, Ursuline drops to 4-15 on the year and 1-11 in conference play.

Findlay opened the game with authority, ripping off a 10-0 run fueled by aggressive work on the offensive glass and quick scores in transition. Senior Alyssa Ziehler controlled the paint with seven first-quarter points, while junior Allie Stockton knocked down a timely corner three to push the Oilers' lead to 12, their largest advantage of the afternoon. Ursuline answered late with an 8-0 surge to trim the deficit, but Findlay still carried a four-point lead into the end of the opening quarter.

In the second quarter, Ursuline used an 11-0 run to knot the score at 21-21, but Findlay refused to give up the advantage. Back-to-back threes late in the half—one from junior MacKenzie Schulz and another from senior Ariyah Douglas—restored momentum and sent Findlay into the locker room with a five-point lead.

Findlay seized control in the third quarter behind strong defense and steady interior scoring. Ziehler opened the half with back-to-back buckets, and Schulz added five points—including a momentum-shifting three—to help the Oilers build an 11-point lead midway through the period. Ursuline chipped away with free throws and a transition three, but Findlay's second-chance scoring allowed the Oilers to maintain control.

The final period belonged to Findlay's guards. Schulz caught fire again, burying a pair of dagger threes, and Douglas delivered a massive stretch with a three, crucial rebounds, and 5-for-6 free-throw shooting in the final minute. Stockton's second-chance finish pushed the lead to six with 9:20 left, a margin Findlay never surrendered.

As a team, the Oilers shot 41.2% from the field (28-of-68) and 33.3% from three-point range (9-of-27). The nine made threes tied their season high, last achieved in mid-November against Lake Superior State. Findlay controlled the glass and generated extra possessions, outrebounding Ursuline 41-34 and holding a 14-6 advantage on the offensive boards, which translated into a decisive 16-4 edge in second-chance points.

The Oilers were paced by junior MacKenzie Schulz, who poured in a season-high 22 points. The Strongsville, Ohio native knocked down 6-of-13 attempts from beyond the arc, setting a season best for made three-pointers, and finished with a well-rounded stat line that included five rebounds and two steals.

Senior Alyssa Ziehler extended her strong season with 17 points, marking the tenth time she has scored 15 or more points this year. She added nine rebounds, including five on the offensive glass, and led the team with three steals.

Senior Ariyah Douglas and junior Allie Stockton also made significant contributions for the Oilers. Douglas scored 11 points and hauled in a career-high eight rebounds, while Stockton added nine points and seven boards.

Findlay returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 29, traveling to Owensboro, Ky., to face the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET).
