Cedarville, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team was on the road for a third consecutive game on Saturday, January 31 and won an important 82-75 decision against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets in Callan Athletic Center. That win gives the Oilers a 14-8 record overall with an 8-6 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-11 and 4-8 in conference action.
With the win today by Findlay, it is the fourth consecutive time in the series between these two teams that the home team has suffered a loss. The last time the two teams battled came in the first round of last year's G-MAC tournament where eighth-seeded CU defeated the regular-season champion Oilers in Croy Gymnasium.
Today's game was a different story as Findlay led for nearly 90% of the game, last trailing midway through the first half. A triple by senior Jagger Landers put UF in front 20-19 and the Orange and Black never trailed for the remainder of the game.
Findlay led 40-33 at the break and kept Cedarville at arm's length, eventually building a lead of 67-48 with less than ten minutes to play in the game. The home team was able to battle back, closing the gap to single digits, but it was far too late as Findlay went on to a seven-point victory.
The Oilers made 50% (31-of-62) from the floor in the game and hit nine triples while holding the Yellow Jackets to 46% (30-of-65) from the field including just 7-of-26 (27%) from deep.
Sophomore Steele Meister led the way with 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists in 20 minutes of play while junior Anthony Johnson scored 12, had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Senior Max Roth rounded out the team's double-digit scorers with 11 on a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor.
Leading the way on the glass was sophomore Alex Kendall who snagged six rebounds. He also chipped in with eight points.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 with a home game against Tiffin. That game is set to tip off at 3:00 pm.
