Tiffin, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's basketball team used a dominant first-half surge to roll past Tiffin 89–55 on Thursday, January 8 at the Gillmor Center in Tiffin, Ohio. With the win, the Oilers improved to 10–5 overall and 4–3 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while the Dragons fell to 4–9 and 0–6 in the conference.
Findlay seized control midway through the first half with a decisive 16-0 run that turned a tight 8–6 deficit into a 22–8 advantage. That lead continued to grow, ultimately leading by 18 at halftime.
The Oilers opened the second half with some transition buckets, pushing the margin to a game-high 35 points with 5:46 to play in the game.
Findlay forced 21 turnovers and converted them into 26 points, while allowing just four points off giveaways on the other end. The Oilers also dominated the paint with a 40–24 scoring edge and outscored Tiffin 17–0 in fast-break opportunities. The bench delivered a lift as well, contributing 44 points.
Findlay shot 50.7 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, including 12 made threes. The Oilers also controlled the glass with a 36–33 rebounding advantage and limited Tiffin to 37 percent shooting.
Senior Mekhi Elmore led the Oilers with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including a pair of threes, while adding three rebounds and two assists.
Senior Luke Denbow provided a spark off the bench with 11 points in just over 11 minutes while senior Mason Brandt added ten points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Steele Meister chipped in nine points and three boards.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10 with a trip to Canton, Ohio for a game against the Malone Pioneers.
