Volleyball Concludes Midwest Crossover with 3-1 Win vs NMU

Hammond, Ind.- The University of Findlay volleyball team concluded the 2026 Midwest Region Crossover on Saturday, Oct. 17 with a 3-1 win (20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23) over the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). With the win, Findlay improves to 12-8 while Northern Michigan falls to 10-11 on the year.

The Oilers got off to a slow start as Northern Michigan jumped out to an early 12-5 lead, fueled by four service aces. However, Findlay showed its trademark grit, stringing together seven consecutive points to even the score at 15-15. Despite the comeback, Northern Michigan held on to take the opening set 25-20, though the Oilers carried momentum into the second set.

Findlay came out strong in the second set, building an early 13-7 lead behind two kills from senior Hannah Miller and a service ace from freshman Claire Schoenberger. Leading 15-10, the Orange and Black continued to pull away with a 6-1 run to extend their advantage to 21-11. Findlay maintained control the rest of the way, earning a 25-16 set victory to even the match at 1-1.

Findlay opened the third set with a 5-0 run, fueled by four kills and a service ace. Northern Michigan battled back to pull within one at 11-10, but three kills from senior Hannah Miller and a Wildcat attack error helped the Orange and Black rebuild a five-point advantage at 15-10. The Oilers maintained control the rest of the way, eventually extending their lead to eight points to secure a 25-17 win and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth set featured a back-and-forth battle with five ties throughout. The final deadlock came at 22-22 before a kill from junior Stephanie Smith and another from senior Hannah Miller put the Oilers at set point. Northern Michigan fought off one opportunity, but Miller delivered the decisive kill to secure a 25-23 victory and clinch the match 3-1 for Findlay.

As a team, the Oilers hit .247 while holding the Wildcats to just .186 including .037 in the second set.

Smith led Findlay with 15 kills while hitting .289, adding two blocks and a service ace. Miller followed with 14 kills and contributed across the stat sheet with two aces, 12 digs, and four assists.

Senior Lauren Foerster continued her stellar performance recording 11 kills while hitting .524.
