Oilers Stumble Against Tiffin

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Tiffin Dragons on Saturday, October 24. With the loss, the Oilers fall to 10-4-2 overall and 7-4-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.

Findlay got off to a strong start, taking the lead less than three minutes into the match. Junior Joey Chirco found the back of the net off assists from senior Carson Oberski and senior Tyler Pawlicki. Tiffin responded with an equalizer with just over five minutes remaining in the first half to send the teams into the break tied at 1-1.

The Oilers spent much of the second half absorbing pressure from Tiffin, who recorded 10 shots compared to Findlay's three. Late in the half, Tiffin was reduced to 10 players after a player received a second yellow card and was sent off. However, Tiffin found the winning goal in the 82nd minute when senior Emerson Layman brought down an attacker in the box and received his second yellow card of the match, resulting in a red card and leaving both teams with 10 players. Tiffin converted the ensuing penalty kick to take a 2-1 lead, leaving the Oilers with little time to respond.

Findlay finished the match with five shots on target and forced four saves from the Tiffin goalkeeper. The match featured eight yellow cards, including two second-yellow-card dismissals.

The Oilers will look to bounce back when they travel to Midland, Michigan, to face Northwood on Tuesday, October 27, at 4 p.m.
