Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Tiffin University on Saturday, October 24, at DeHaven Field. With the win, the Oilers improved to 12-2-3 overall and 9-1-3 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.
Findlay wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as senior Taylir Lynam found the back of the net at 12:14. Lynam's fifth goal of the season came off assists from fifth-year Raegan Smith and freshman Kate Delaney, giving the Oilers an early 1-0 advantage. Findlay continued to create scoring opportunities throughout the first half, recording six shots and earning two corner kicks.
Tiffin looked to even the score before halftime, earning a penalty kick opportunity in the 41st minute. However, fifth-year goalkeeper Cat Graves came up with a crucial save on the attempt from Daphine Nalubowa to preserve Findlay's one-goal lead heading into the break.
The Oilers continued to apply pressure in the second half, adding six more shots and five corner kicks. Findlay finished the contest with a 12-6 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. The Dragons attempted four shots on goal, but the Oilers' defensive effort kept Tiffin off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes.
Lynam led Findlay with two shots on goal, while senior Allie Arnold contributed two shots on goal of her own. Smith and Delaney each recorded an assist on the game-winning goal, helping the Oilers secure their second consecutive shutout victory.
In goal, Graves played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves to earn the shutout. Her first-half penalty kick save proved especially important in preserving the lead as Findlay closed out the 1-0 victory. The Oilers limited Tiffin to six total shots while maintaining their advantage through the final whistle.
The Oilers will return to the road on Tuesday, October 27, to face Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
