Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay volleyball team delivered a 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-19) sweep of Northwood University on Saturday, Oct. 3 inside Croy Physical Education Center
. The Oilers controlled the match from start to finish, improving to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while the Timberwolves fall to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in league play.
The Oilers and Timberwolves traded points early in the opening set before Findlay broke loose with steady attacking and defensive control at the net. The Orange and Black hit .441 in the opening set, pulling away to secure a 25-14 victory and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
After the opening set, the momentum stayed squarely with Findlay, which dominated the second set 25-8 before holding off a third-set rally by Northwood. Tied at 18-18 in the third frame, the Oilers answered with a decisive 7-1 run to close out the 25-19 set win and complete the sweep.
Findlay hit .448 as a team on the night, highlighted by a .565 hitting percentage in the second set. The Oilers held Northwood to a .071 hitting percentage while holding the advantage in kills (45-26), blocks (9-4), and service aces (4-1).
Senior Hannah Miller led the Oilers on offense, posting a game-high 14 kills while hitting .423 to go along with seven digs and a service ace.
Sophomore Victoria Mescher contributed 11 kills while hitting .455 and recording four blocks, while junior Stephanie Smith added 10 kills on a .526 hitting percentage. Senior Lauren Foerster chipped in seven kills and four blocks, and Keira Turek added six kills.
Senior setter Zoya Winkelfoos directed the offense with 31 assists while picking up 10 digs and two service ace. Defensively, freshman Claire Schoenberger led the team with 12 digs, while senior Miya Ellerbrock added 10 digs.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday, October 10 with a home game against Ohio Dominican before heading to Hammond, Indiana on October 16-17 for the Midwest Region Crossover.
