Crestview Hills, KY – The University of Findlay men's soccer team traveled to Thomas More University to take on the Saints in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship Quarterfinals on October 31, 2026. The Oilers earned the sixth seed in the postseason tournament after concluding the regular season on Tuesday. The third seed Saints took on the Oilers in what has been the third consecutive season that the two teams have met in the conference tournament. An exciting match saw Findlay earn an upset win on Halloween night led by a brace from senior
Carson Oberski. Their 3-2 victory advances them into the G-MAC Championship Tournament Semifinals match to be played later this week. With this win, the Oilers move to 11-5-2 (7-5-2) on the year. The Saints conclude their season with a record of 10-5-4 (8-2-4).
A game that was fierce from the initial whistle saw the Oilers strike first with a goal from
Carson Oberski in the 28
th minute of the first half, giving the Orange and Black a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by fifth year
Tom Middleham, his fifth of the 2026 campaign. Not long after, sophomore
Eric Millan found the back of the net in the 43
rd minute from a cross delivered by sophomore
Josh Brennan, doubling the lead heading into the break.
Just minutes into the second half, Findlay went down to ten men after senior
Emerson Layman was awarded a red card in the 52
nd minute of play. Shortly thereafter, the Saints' midfielder Mauricio Medina reduced the lead in less than 60 seconds after the incident, taking advantage of the extra man and making the score 2-1. The Saints would strike again to level the game in the 56
th minute from a deflected goal off the foot of Callum Judge, making the score 2-2 with just over 30 minutes to play in regulation.
A brilliant individual effort from Oberski would once again give the Oilers the lead when his shot found the back of the net in the 64
th minute, making the score 3-2. In a desperate attempt to even the match, Thomas More fell just short, as the Oilers would hold strong and earn a defiant victory on the road and punch their ticket into the conference championship semifinals.
The Saints led in numerous categories on the night, including total shots, 20-15, and corner kicks, 6-5. Oberski led the Oilers in shots with four total. Senior goalkeeper
Ethan Hensley collected five saves in the match.
Findlay returns to play and looks to keep their season alive when they travel to Painesville, OH to take on the Tiffin Dragons at 4pm on Thursday, November 5 in the G-MAC Championship Tournament Semifinals.
