Crestview Hills, Ky. - For the second time in as many days, the University of Findlay volleyball team took the court, taking on Thomas More on Saturday, October 31. Despite the quick turnaround, the Oilers showed no signs of tired legs, defeating the Saints 3-0 for their sixth straight win. With today's results, Findlay moves to 16-8 overall and 11-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Meanwhile, Thomas More drops to 7-17 overall and 3-10 in conference.
Findlay would set the tone in set one, as with the game tied 5-5 just ten points in, the Oilers would go on a 13-1 run to jump out to a 18-6 lead. They would go on to win set one 25-10, before handling sets two and three by scores of 25-18 and 25-19.
Solid all season long, tonight was no different for the duo of
Hannah Miller and
Stephanie Smith. Miller led the team with 12 kills, while Smith finished one behind with 11.
Kirsten Bomholt directed the Findlay offense, collecting a team-high 18 assists. The senior was also a weapon from the serving line, leading the team with four service aces.
Zoya Winkelfoos also was effective on the set, tallying 12 assists.Â
It was a team effort on the defensive end, as three different Oilers finished with a team-high eight digs. Miller, Winkelfoos, and
Claire Schoenberger all reached this total in the three set contest.
The Oilers will be back in action on Friday, November 6 for a 7 pm matchup at Northwood.
