Painesville, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's soccer team traveled to Lake Erie College to take on Tiffin University in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship Semifinals on Thursday, November 5. The sixth-seeded Oilers entered the postseason matchup looking to extend their tournament run against the second-seeded Dragons.
An exciting match saw Findlay earn another upset victory led by senior
Carson Oberski's late game-winner. Their 2-1 victory advances them into the G-MAC Championship match to be played this coming Saturday. With this win, the Oilers move to 12-5-2 on the year. The Dragons fall to 9-4-6.
Tiffin struck first in the 29th minute with a goal from Callum Ellington, who flicked in a header off a long throw-in.
Findlay responded in the 37th minute when Tyson Woodring converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the 2026 campaign, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the break.
The second half saw high intensity from both sides as each team fought to break the tie. Tiffin generated multiple scoring threats early in the period, but the Findlay defense held strong, including a critical team save in the 55th minute to keep the match tied.
A game-breaking turnover would give the Oilers the lead when Oberski seized on a bad giveaway in the 80th minute, racing downfield from near midfield and beating the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation to make the score 2-1. In a desperate attempt to even the match, Tiffin fell just short as the Oilers held strong down the stretch to earn a defiant victory and punch their ticket into the conference championship game.
The Oilers held the edge in several categories on the night, including total shots, 19-16, shots on goal, 10-9, and corner kicks, 7-6. Oberski led Findlay in shots with five total, placing four on goal. Senior goalkeeper Ethan Hensley played an outstanding match as he collected seven saves in the match to help preserve the victory.
Findlay returns to play and looks to keep their postseason run alive when they compete in the G-MAC Championship match on Saturday, November 7.
