Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over the University of Illinois-Springfield on Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Findlay YMCA East.
The Oilers captured the early momentum by claiming the doubles point. At the No. 2 spot, Aleksander Ivancevic and Nicolo Lippolis earned a convincing 6-2 win over Lin En Tan and Miran Todorovic. The top pairing of Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins clinched the point for Findlay with a 6-4 victory against Pablo Herrera and Kai Van-Roon.
In singles play, Findlay dominated the middle of the lineup. Soh Kuyama was perfect at the No. 3 position, defeating Lin En Tan without dropping a single game, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 1 singles, Andrieu earned a straight-set victory over Herrera, 6-3, 6-3. Matthis Veniard added a point at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Antonio Ayerbe Streubel, while Lippolis cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The most competitive match of the day came at No. 4 singles, where Ivancevic rallied from a set down to defeat Kai Van-Roon in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Illinois-Springfield's lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Luke Pennington defeated Runa Kagoshima 6-3, 6-3.
The Oilers will return to action on Friday, Feb. 6 with a trip to Grand Valley State.
