Men's Tennis Falls to #13 Grand Valley State

Allendale, Mich.- The University of Findlay men's tennis faced a tough test on Friday, Feb. 6, falling 6-1 to the thirteenth-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. With the loss the Oilers fall to 1-1 on the season while the Lakers improve to 2-0.

The Lakers swept the doubles matches to secure the opening point. At the number two spot, the Oilers' duo of sophomore Aleksander Ivancevic and junior Nicolo Lippolis battled to a 7-5 defeat against Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov. Grand Valley State clinched the point with wins at the number three and number one positions.

In singles play, the hosts extended their lead, winning five of the six matchups. However, Findlay fought through several tightly contested matches.

Sophomore Runa Kagoshima provided the highlight for the Oilers, earning the team's lone point with a straight-set victory at number six singles. Kagoshima defeated Santiago Castellanos 7-6, 6-3.

At the top of the lineup, junior Clément Andrieu forced a deciding third set against Denys Zamaraiev at number one singles but ultimately fell 6-2, 0-6, 6-0. Similarly, at number four singles, Aleksander Ivancevic pushed Jorge Ruiz to a third set before dropping a narrow 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 decision.

The Oilers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they face Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. at 2pm.
