Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-Half Slide Strands Findlay at Ohio Dominican

Columbus, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 73-60 to Ohio Dominican on Saturday, Feb. 14 inside Alumni Hall. Despite a strong effort from the bench, the Oilers could not erase a sizable second-half deficit, suffering their second straight loss and third in the last five games. With the defeat, Findlay drops to 15-10 overall and 9-8 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Ohio Dominican improves to 16-8 overall and 10-6 in the conference.

The Oilers jumped out to an early lead, ignited by senior Mason Brandt, who knocked down a three-pointer just 23 seconds into the game following a jump ball win by Alex Kendall. This sparked an initial 8-2 surge over the first minute and a half. However, the momentum shifted as the opposition responded with a 14-0 run, taking a 25-17 lead midway through the period. Findlay fought back with a 9-0 run of their own, featuring a three-pointer from senior Jagger Landers and free throws by seniors Jake Bishop and Steele Meister, to briefly regain a 28-27 lead. The teams remained neck-and-neck until the break, with Alex Kendall hitting a late bucket to bring the Oilers within three, trailing 36-33 at halftime.

The second half saw the Oilers struggle with their shooting, which dipped to 32.1% for the period. Despite the early deficit, Landers kept Findlay within striking distance by hitting two consecutive three-pointers, and a three by Meister at the 15:36 mark narrowed the gap to just two points at 44-42. Following this push, the Oilers' offense stalled as they were outscored 37-27 in the final twenty minutes. The opposition steadily extended its advantage, pushing the lead to as many as 19 points in the final two minutes while closing out a 63-20 victory.

Findlay shot 20-of-56 (35.7%) from the floor and 9-of-30 (30.0%) from three, while Ohio Dominican found a stronger rhythm at 28-of-56 (50.0%), piling up 40 points in the paint and hitting 6-of-18 (33.3%) from deep. The Panthers also controlled the glass, owning a 41-29 rebounding edge.

Brandt paced the Oilers with 12 points, knocking down 3-of-6 from beyond the arc while also pulling down a team-high four rebounds. Meister added 11 points and matched that total with four boards of his own.
Findlay returns to action Thursday, Feb. 19, when it hosts Cedarville University in Croy Physical Education Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
