Detroit, Mich. - The University of Findlay men's tennis team fell to No. 23 Wayne State University in a contest that ended 6-1.
Wayne State claimed the first point of the match from winning all three doubles matches. The No. 3 pairing of Soh Kuyama and Runa Kagoshima lost a hard-fought match 5-7 against Wayne State's George Day and Thomas Mathys. The No. 1 matchup of Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins also put in a good fight but fell 3-6 to Luis Klaus and Harry Forsyth.
In singles play, the Warriors continued their dominance and won five out of the six singles match-ups. However, the Oilers battled deep into the evening, forcing a third set in three of the six contests.
Findlay's lone point came at the No. 6 spot, where Runa Kagoshima pulled off a comeback victory. After dropping the opening set 4-6, Kagoshima rallied to win the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 before clinching the match in a super-tiebreaker, 10-7, over Sam Knowles.
At the top of the lineup, Clement Andrieu engaged in a three-set battle with George Day. After dropping the first set, Andrieu dominated the second frame 6-0, but eventually fell 6-3 in the decider. Matthis Veniard also pushed his opponent to the limit at No. 3 singles, winning the second set 7-6 before falling in a tight 10-7 super-tiebreaker to Tom Wasner.
Findlay returns to action Sunday, Mar. 1 with an away match up in Edinboro, Pennsylvania to take on Edinboro.
