Men's Tennis Falls to DI Cleveland State

Cleveland, Ohio- The University of Findlay tennis team faced Division I Cleveland State University on Sunday, Feb. 22, falling 7-0 to the Vikings at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. With the loss, the Oilers drop to 1-4 on the season, while Cleveland State improves to 8-6.

In doubles play, the Oilers were unable to capture the opening point. At number one doubles, sophomore Matthis Veniard and senior Soh Kuyama battled closely but fell 7–5. Senior Maxwell Hosey and junior Nicolo Lippolis were narrowly edged 7-6 in the number two position, while sophomores Aleksander Ivancevic and Runa Kagoshima dropped a 6-2 decision at number three, sending Findlay into singles play trailing 1-0.

Singles competition proved equally challenging for the Orange and Black. Junior Clement Andrieu was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles, and Kuyama fell 6-3, 6-2 at number two. Veniard dropped a 6-0, 6-3 match in the number three slot.

Ivancevic delivered the closest singles match of the day at number, splitting the first two sets before falling in a decisive tiebreak, 10-6. Junior Maneo Gaborin was defeated 6-2, 6-1 at number five, and sophomore Grant Hawkins rounded out the lineup with a 6-2, 6-1 loss at number six.

Findlay returns to action Sunday, March 1, traveling to Edinboro, Pa., to face the Fighting Scots.
