Fourth-Quarter Collapse Dooms Findlay in 67-43 Road Loss at Ohio Dominican

Columbus, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought road contest to Ohio Dominican on Saturday, Feb. 14 inside Alumni Hall. Offensive struggles proved costly for the Oilers, who scored in single digits during both the first and fourth quarters - deficits they could not overcome. With the 67-43 loss, Findlay falls to 14-10 overall and 10-7 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Ohio Dominican improves to 11-13 on the season and 6-10 in the G-MAC.

The game opened with both teams locked in a defensive battle. Senior Alyssa Ziehler worked hard in the paint early, though the Oilers struggled to convert initial looks. Senior Ella Mescher provided the first spark for Findlay with a layup at the 5:07 mark to break the early drought. Shortly after, senior Ariyah Douglas capitalized on a turnover with a quick layup of her own. Junior Addisyn Freeman added a late jump shot to close the period with Findlay trailing 14-6.

Findlay gained momentum in the second quarter, edging the Panthers 17-16 in the period. Freeman sparked the offense with a deep three-pointer, and junior MacKenzie Schulz added a fast-break layup moments later. Junior Taylor Stanley knocked down a pair of free throws to keep the Oilers within striking distance, while Douglas and Mescher scored during a 7-0 run that trimmed the deficit to just one point midway through the quarter. However, Ohio Dominican responded with a late push, sending Findlay into halftime trailing 30-23.

The third quarter featured a back-and-forth battle, with Findlay matching its second-quarter output by scoring 17 points. Stanley sparked the offense with an early jumper in the paint, and Douglas later drilled a key three-pointer to cut the deficit to three. Junior Allie Stockton made her presence felt by drawing fouls and controlling the defensive glass. Despite the Oilers' strong shooting, including over 42% from beyond the arc in the quarter, Ohio Dominican answered with a 20-point period to stretch the lead to 50-40.

The final quarter proved challenging for the Oilers, as shots would not fall and Findlay shot just 9.1% from the field, scoring only three points in the period, ultimately falling 67-43.

As a team, Findlay shot 16-of-55 (29.1%) from the field — its lowest mark of the season — including 4-of-21 (19%) from three-point range and 7-of-16 (43.8%) at the free-throw line. Ohio Dominican finished 26-of-56 (46.4%) from the floor and 7-of-16 (43.8%) from beyond the arc. Rebounding also proved decisive, as the Panthers controlled the glass 44-26.

Freeman led the Oilers with eight points in just 14 minutes and added three rebounds. Stockton and Douglas each contributed seven points, with Stockton also pulling down seven rebounds. Ziehler paced the team on the glass with 11 rebounds.

Findlay returns to action Thursday, Feb. 19, hosting Cedarville at Neikamp Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
