Oilers Win Series Finale vs. #20 Seton Hill 8-6

Wingate, NC – The University of Findlay baseball team secured its first victory of the 2026 season on Monday, Feb. 16, defeating the #20 Seton Hill Griffins by a score of 8-6 at Ron Christopher Stadium. The win in the series finale moves the Oilers to 1-2 on the year, while Seton Hill falls to 2-1.

The Oilers fell behind early, trailing 2-0 after the Griffins scored single runs in the first and second innings. Findlay began to chip away at the lead in the third inning when junior Nick Palm delivered an RBI single to score sophomore Isaac Ramos, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Oilers tied the game in the sixth inning on an RBI single by senior Gavyn Smith that drove in senior Keelan Daniel.

The Findlay offense erupted in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring six runs to take a decisive lead. The rally began with the bases loaded when junior Luke Senften delivered a single to left-center field, driving in two runs to break the tie. Smith followed with another RBI single to center, and sophomore Mason Myers added an RBI single of his own. A fielding error by the Seton Hill defense allowed two more runs to cross the plate, capping the six-run frame and giving the Oilers an 8-2 advantage.

Senior Colin Becker was a force out of the bullpen to earn the win (1-0). Becker tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, striking out a career-high seven batters while allowing just three hits to keep the Griffins in check during the middle innings. Although Seton Hill rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning, senior Conner Evanich entered the game with the potential tying run on base and struck out the final batter to record his first save of the season.

Offensively, the Oilers were led by Gavyn Smith, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Senior Casey Maruniak also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Luke Senften contributed a hit and two RBIs, while Keelan Daniel doubled and scored twice.

Sophomore starting pitcher Sebastian Stevens took a no-decision, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits.

The Oilers will conclude their trip to North Carolina on Tuesday, Feb. 17, when they take on host Wingate University.
