Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's basketball team was defeated by the Cedarville Yellow Jackets 85-75 on Thursday, Feb. 19. The loss drops the Oilers to 15-11 overall and 9-9 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 12-13 and 7-10 in conference play.
Findlay held a 34-33 lead at halftime, but Cedarville opened the second half on a 12-4 scoring run to take a 45-38 advantage.
Findlay stayed within striking distance and cut the deficit to 73-65 on a Jake Bishop three-pointer with 3:30 remaining in the game. Cedarville immediately responded on the ensuing possession with a three-pointer, sparking a 6-0 sequence that extended the lead to 79-65 and secured the victory.
Cedarville, which now has three consecutive wins against the Oilers in games played in Findlay, shot 60% (30-of-50) from the field and 50% (11-of-22) from three-point range. Findlay finished shooting 37.5 percent (24-of-64) from the floor and 32.5 percent (13-of-40) from beyond the arc. The Oilers held an advantage in ball security, committing six turnovers compared to nine for the Yellow Jackets. Cedarville held a slight rebounding edge, 32-30.
Junior Jake Bishop paced Findlay with 20 points off the bench, shooting 6-of-8 from three-point range. Senior Mekhi Elmore scored 11 points, and junior Anthony Johnson added ten points and three assists. Senior Jagger Landers contributed eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Findlay is back on the court on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Hillsdale.
