Tennis Falls on Road vs Ferris State

Big Rapids, Mich. – The University of Findlay men's tennis team captured the doubles point to take an early lead but could not hold off a rallying Ferris State University squad, falling 4-2 on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The Oilers (1-2) started the day with high energy in doubles play. After dropping the match at the No. 2 spot, Findlay bounced back at the top of the lineup. The duo of Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins secured a 6-4 victory over Kevin and Erik Kovacs at No. 1. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 court, where Soh Kuyama and Runa Kagoshima battled to a 7-5 victory over Adrian Catahan and Felipe Iser, giving Findlay a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.

However, the host Bulldogs responded by winning four singles matches to clinch the team victory.

Findlay's lone point in singles competition came from Matthis Veniard at the No. 3 position. In a marathon three-set contest, Veniard rallied from a set down to defeat Felipe Iser 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

Ferris State secured straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 to take the lead. At No. 1 singles, Andrieu fell in a tight second-set tiebreaker to Kevin Kovacs, 6-2, 7-6. The deciding point came at No. 2 singles, where Soh Kuyama forced a third set but ultimately fell to Jose Andres Perez Alarcon 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

The match at No. 6 singles was left unfinished. Findlay's Runa Kagoshima was closing in on a victory, leading Andrew Vincler 6-4, 5-2 when play was halted.

The Oilers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14 with a trip to Detroit, Michigan to take on Wayne State.
