Findlay, Ohio — The University of Findlay men's tennis team completed a successful weekend at home with a 5-2 victory over Davenport University on Sunday, March 15 at the YMCA East Branch. That win gives Findlay a 5-5 record in duals this spring.
The Oilers set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles flights to secure the opening point. At the No. 1 spot, Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins battled to a 7-5 win over Daniel Calver and Jaden Bender. The No. 2 pairing of Matthis Veniard and Soh Kuyama dispatched Jan Stolin and Reuben Bakker 6-4, while Nicolo Lippolis and Runa Kagoshima matched that 6-4 scoreline at No. 3 doubles against Rudiger Dusselberg and Bennet Dozeman.
With a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play, Findlay maintained its momentum to put the match away. Soh Kuyama made quick work of Calver at the No. 2 flight, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory. Nicolo Lippolis mirrored that exact score at No. 6 singles, taking down Dozeman 6-2, 6-2 to extend the Oilers' lead.
The middle of the Findlay lineup showed its resilience by grinding out a pair of three-set victories. At No. 3 singles, Veniard shook off a slow start to defeat Bender 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Right behind him at No. 4, Aleksander Ivancevic emerged victorious in a hard-fought clash against Dusselberg, winning 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.
Findlay will take on Cedarville on Saturday, March 21 in the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) event of the year.
