Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's tennis team overcame an early deficit to secure a 6-1 victory over Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opponent Cedarville University on Saturday, March 21. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Oilers dominated singles play to complete the conference sweep and move to 6-5 on the year.
Cedarville took an early lead by claiming the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Matthis Veniard and Soh Kuyama provided the lone doubles win for Findlay at the No. 2 spot, defeating Roman Issayev and Alexander Rongos 6-2. However, the Yellow Jackets clinched the point as Roberto Esquivel and Penn Morrison earned a 6-3 win at the top flight, followed by a matching 6-3 victory from Logan DeHaven and Pedro Nogueira De Carvalho at No. 3.
Trailing 1-0 heading into singles, the Oilers shifted the momentum by sweeping all six flights. Matthis Veniard ignited the comeback at the No. 3 spot with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance over Logan DeHaven. At the top of the lineup, Soh Kuyama outlasted Roman Issayev in a grueling three-set battle, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Aleksander Ivancevic added a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
Clement Andrieu also rallied for a three-set win at the No. 2 flight, coming from behind to defeat Roberto Esquivel 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. The Oilers finalized the team victory with efficient straight-set wins at the bottom of the order, as Runa Kagoshima took the No. 5 flight 6-3, 6-2, and Nicolo Lippolis capped the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Findlay is back in action tomorrow, March 22, for another conference matchup against Ashland University.
