Findlay Rolls to Sunday Sweep of Ursuline

Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Findlay softball team earned a pair of dominant victories over Ursuline College on Sunday, March 22. The Oilers allowed just four total hits across 11 innings, securing an 11-0 win in game one followed by an 8-0 shutout in game two. With the sweep, Findlay improves to 18-7 overall and 3-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Ursuline drops to 8-14 on the season and 0-4 in conference action.

Game One (W 11-0)
The Oilers wasted no time getting on the board, setting the tone early. Senior Alexys Antal drew a leadoff walk before senior Annika Bredel singled to right, putting runners on first and second. A sacrifice fly from junior Joslynne Frazier and an RBI single by junior Anna Jones made it 2-0. Senior Jenna Poulson added to the lead with a single to right center, scoring Jones for the third run of the inning.

Antal, who tossed all five innings, retired the side in order in the first and carried that momentum into the second. Findlay's offense kept rolling as a Frazier groundout pushed the lead to 4-0, and freshman Sophie Retton followed with a two-RBI single to left center, extending the advantage to 6-0. The Oilers' defense stayed sharp, retiring three straight Arrows once again in the bottom half.

Findlay blew the game open in the fourth, plating five more runs. The big swing came from sophomore Meghan Heinsman, who launched a three-run home run to left center, bringing home the ninth, tenth, and eleventh runs of the game which ultimately sealed the run-rule victory.

Heinsman and Retton paced the offense with three RBI apiece, while Frazier and Jones each added two. Poulson and Bredel both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bredel also recorded her 60th career stolen base in the top of the second, tying the program record set from 1986-89.

Antal improves to 7-2 on the season, allowing just two hits while tossing a scoreless outing. She recorded one strikeout and issued one walk.

Game Two (W 8-0)
It took the Oilers until the third inning to get on the board, as Findlay plated a lone run on a groundout by Bredel.

The Oilers once again used a big fourth inning to seize momentum. Poulson singled up the middle to make it 2-0 before freshman Jenna Dee delivered a two-run double to right center. Bredel followed with a double of her own, extending the lead to 6-0.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth, but Findlay added two more in the sixth behind another two-RBI double from Bredel.

Annika Bredel led the way at the plate, tallying hits in three of her four at-bats and driving in a season-high five RBI. She now has 130 career RBI, ranking second in program history and just six shy of the all-time mark of 136 set by Brittany Dauterman (2009-2013). Dee and Poulson also had strong performances, each going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Freshman Kaylynn Carter earned the win for the Orange and Black, improving to 4-0 on the season after tossing five innings and allowing just two hits. She walked one and struck out three. Senior Kayla Dykin closed things out in relief, throwing the final inning without allowing a hit.

Findlay returns to action on Friday, March 27, continuing G-MAC play against the Ashland Eagles. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Anderson Field at Marathon Diamonds.
