Box Score Hillsdale, Mich. — The 45th-ranked University of Findlay men's tennis team picked up a solid 4-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) road victory over Hillsdale College on Friday, March 27 at the Mary Jane Delp Tennis Courts in Hillsdale, Mich. The Oilers have now won six consecutive matches and improve to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Findlay captured the early momentum by securing the doubles point. At the No. 1 flight, Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins dominated Henry Hammond and Ryan Papazov for a quick 6-1 win. Hillsdale answered at No. 2 doubles as Samuel Plys and Jackson Clements defeated Matthis Veniard and Soh Kuyama 6-3. However, Nicolo Lippolis and Runa Kagoshima clinched the opening point for the Oilers at the No. 3 spot, downing Alejandro Cordero Lopez and Rintaro Goda 6-3.
Carrying a 1-0 lead into singles play, the top of the Findlay lineup delivered convincing straight-set victories. Soh Kuyama extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Samuel Plys at No. 1 singles. Shortly after, Clement Andrieu pushed the Oilers closer to victory by defeating Henry Hammond 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 flight.
Aleksander Ivancevic secured the overall match-clinching point for Findlay at No. 4 singles, overcoming Alejandro Cordero Lopez in a hard-fought 7-6, 6-2 decision.
Hillsdale picked up its lone point of the afternoon at the No. 3 spot, where Ryan Papazov narrowly outlasted Matthis Veniard 7-6, 6-4 just moments after the overall dual had been decided. With the match clinched at 4-1, the remaining singles flights at No. 5 and No. 6 were left unfinished.
Findlay returns home to take on the Northwood Timberwolves on Sunday, March 29 at 4:00 pm.
