#45 Men's Tennis Falls 4-0 to #42 Northwood

Findlay, Ohio — The 45th-ranked University of Findlay men's tennis team fell 4-0 in a top-50 national showdown against 42nd-ranked Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) rival Northwood University on Sunday, March 29. Findlay is now 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Northwood secured the initial advantage by taking a highly contested doubles point. The Timberwolves struck first at the No. 3 flight, where Finn Buschmaas and Andrey Pikulin defeated Nicolo Lippolis and Runa Kagoshima 6-1. The Oilers answered back at the No. 2 spot, as Matthis Veniard and Soh Kuyama fought out a tight 7-6 tiebreaker victory over AJ Duggan and Sergio Lopez Guillen. The opening point ultimately came down to the top flight, where Northwood's Marc Ferrando Farras and Juan Perez Garcia edged Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins 6-4.

Carrying a 1-0 lead into singles play, the Timberwolves claimed three victories to clinch the overall dual, halting the remaining unfinished matches.

Marc Ferrando Farras quickly extended Northwood's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Matthis Veniard at No. 3 singles. At the No. 4 spot, Aleksander Ivancevic took the opening set for Findlay, but AJ Duggan rallied to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The match was officially decided at the top singles flight in a three-set battle. Northwood's Sergio Lopez Guillen outlasted Soh Kuyama 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to secure the fourth and final point for the visitors.

When the dual was clinched, Clement Andrieu was notably leading his match at No. 2 singles. After splitting the first two sets with Andrey Pikulin, Andrieu held a 5-2 advantage in the third set before play was abandoned. Runa Kagoshima (No. 5) and Nicolo Lippolis (No. 6) also had their matches left unfinished in the early stages.

Findlay is back on the court on Friday, April 3 with a trip to Thomas More.
