Men's Tennis Upsets #25 Adelphi in New York

Garden City, NY - The University of Findlay men's tennis team secured a statement victory on Wednesday, March 4, upsetting 25th-ranked Adelphi University 5-2 at the Center for Recreation & Sports. That win gives the Oilers a record of 3-5 on the year.

The Oilers set the tone early by capturing the tightly contested doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 3 pairing of Nicolo Lippolis and Runa Kagoshima earned the first advantage for Findlay with a 6-4 victory over Adelphi's Spyridon Papageorgiou and Leo Silverston. The doubles point was clinched at the top flight, where Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins outlasted Thomas Horsley and Louca Bertone in a 7-6 battle.

Carrying momentum into singles play, Findlay claimed four of the six matches to seal the overall team victory.

Andrieu led the charge at No. 1 singles, dispatching Viktor Hockl in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Soh Kuyama engaged in the match of the day against Louca Bertone. After splitting the first two sets, Kuyama emerged victorious in a hard-fought 10-point match tiebreaker to win 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.

The back half of the Oilers' lineup proved too much for the Panthers. Kagoshima cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Silverston at No. 5 singles, while Lippolis dominated Arturo Beitman at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-2.

Adelphi picked up its two points at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles flights. Papageorgiou defeated Matthis Veniard 6-3, 6-3, and Andrea Albiero bested Aleksander Ivancevic 6-1, 6-4.

Findlay will be back in action on Sunday, March 15 when they take on Davenport University in Findlay.
