Oilers Drop DH vs Ashland, Split Series and Stay in First in G-MAC North

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Ashland University on Sunday, April 12. Findlay lost the first game 7-5 and fell in the series finale 15-8. The pair of losses drops the Oilers' overall record to 24-13 on the season but they remain in first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) North Division with a league record of 15-5.

Game 1 (L 7-5)

Findlay fell to Ashland 7-5 in the first game of the doubleheader. Ashland took a commanding lead early by scoring five runs in the top of the third inning.

The Oilers attempted a comeback, scoring one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull within one at 5-4. But defensive struggles in the sixth led to a couple of runs and Ashland hung on for the win.

Offensively, the Oilers were limited to just four hits in the contest. Gavyn Smith hit a double and drove in a run, while Nick Palm and Isaac Ramos also contributed RBIs to fuel the middle-inning rally. Starting pitcher Aidan Kiessling took the loss for Findlay, allowing five earned runs on four hits over 3.0 innings of work.

Game 2 (L 15-8)

In the second game, Ashland completed the sweep with a high-scoring 15-8 victory over the Oilers.

After Findlay took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by sophomore Mason Myers, Ashland responded with four runs in the top of the third.

Findlay immediately countered with a massive five-run third inning to temporarily regain the lead. That inning was spurred by three hits and three Ashland errors.

However, Ashland's offense proved too much, pulling away in the late innings with a two-run sixth followed by four runs in both the seventh and eighth frames.

Despite the loss, Findlay showed some fight. Mason Myers and Isaac Ramos both hit home runs for the Oilers, and Aiden Booth added a double.

Starting pitcher David Jimenez was handed the loss after giving up four earned runs on three hits in 2.2 innings. The Findlay pitching staff struggled collectively, surrendering 12 hits and 15 runs across the contest.

The Oilers will be back when they take on Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday, April 14 in Utica, Michigan.
