Baseball Drops Non-Conference Affair Against SVSU

Utica, Mich. – The University of Findlay baseball team fell in a non-conference game at Saginaw Valley State University 17-7 on Tuesday, April 14. The eight-inning loss drops the Oilers' overall record to 24-14 on the season while SVSU improves to 19-16.

Saginaw Valley's offense took control immediately, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning before erupting for five more in the second to build a commanding 9-3 lead. The Cardinals added two runs in the third, two in the fifth, and finished with a four-run eighth inning.

The Oilers scored three runs in the second inning on a home run by Keegan Snyder, a single run in the fourth, and capped their scoring with a three-run eighth, but couldn't keep pace with the high-powered Saginaw Valley offense that tallied 18 hits.

For Findlay, Snyder highlighted the offense with that three-run homer. Gavyn Smith also added a home run and a double, finishing the game with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Dylan Heatherington was handed the loss after failing to record an out in the first inning, allowing four runs on five hits. The Findlay pitching staff used nine different pitchers across the contest, while the defense committed four errors.

The Oilers are back in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday, April 18 but due to weather over the weekend, is possibly in line for a schedule change. Stay tuned to findlayoilers.com for the latest schedule updates.
