Oilers Struggle in Tough Loss at Ashland to Close Out Regular Season

Ashland, Ohio- The University of Findlay lacrosse team fell 19-7 to Ashland University on Saturday, April 18. The Oilers, who have not defeated the Eagles since 2024, close out the regular season with a 9-7 overall record and a 7-1 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Ashland improves to 13-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference action, clinching the regular season title.

Ashland took control early, scoring eight goals in the first quarter while Findlay managed just two, with sophomore Cora West and junior Rebecca Chmiel accounting for the Oilers' scoring in the period.

The Eagles then broke the game open with a dominant 8-0 run that stretched from the closing moments of the second quarter into the middle of the third, extending their lead to 17-4. Findlay answered with three goals down the stretch, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as Ashland secured the 19-7 victory.

The Oilers offense was led by junior Karissa Allbright who recorded three goals on four shots, all of which were on goal. West and Chmiel both added two a piece to conclude the scorers for Findlay. Sophomore Amelia Dillon recorded the lone assist for the Orange and Black.

Senior Emaly Garrett led the defense as she caused a team-high two turnovers while picking up five ground balls.

Caroline Weber got the start in goal for Findlay and was charged with the loss, allowing 13 goals while recording three saves. Josie Owens entered in the second half, giving up six goals and making six saves.

Findlay will be back in action as they await their fate in the Great Midwest Lacrosse Championship. That will begin Saturday, April 25.
