Oilers in Control Heading Into Final Round of Stroke Play at Great Midwest Championship

Metzger Leads Individual Standings

Florence, Ind.- The University of Findlay men's golf team opened play at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship on Monday, April 20. The Oilers, champions in 2024 and 2018, hold the lead after posting rounds of 288 (+4) and 283 (-1) for a 36-hole total of 571 (+3). They carry a 13-stroke advantage over Ashland into Tuesday's final round of stroke play.

Findlay was paced by senior Luke Metzger, who carded rounds of 72 (+1) and 67 (-4) for a 36-hole total of 139 (-3). His total ranks seventh in program history, while his second-round 67 stands as the fifth-lowest round. Metzger holds a one-shot lead over Malone's Jaxon Rinkes, who sits at one-under.

Junior Colin Schadek, last year's individual champion, is tied for third after posting rounds of 70 (-1) and 72 (+1) for a 36-hole total of 142 (E), two shots behind Metzger.

In his conference tournament debut, freshman Ross Dietz is tied for seventh. He recorded rounds of 74 (+3) and 70 (-1) to finish the day at 144 (+2).

Sophomore Cahle Roth also sits inside the top-10 after 36 holes, posting rounds of 72 (+1) and 73 (+2) for a total of 145 (+3).

Senior Zach Miller rounded out the Oilers' lineup, tying for 33rd with a 36-hole score of 157 (+15) after rounds of 80 (+9) and 77 (+6).

Findlay will wrap up stroke play Tuesday morning and is well-positioned to advance to the medal match play portion of the event. Introduced four years ago, the format sends the top two teams from stroke play into a head-to-head matchup on Wednesday. In medal match play, each player competes directly against an opponent, with each match worth one point and the first team to earn three points claiming the title.

The Oilers will continue their pursuit of a third G-MAC championship when they tee off on number one at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
