Rolla, Mo. - University of Findlay senior left-handed pitcher Carson Mellott has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Midwest Region Pitcher of the Week. The honor comes on the heels of a dominant performance on the mound against the Tiffin Dragons on Friday, April 3.
Mellott, a Tiffin, Ohio native, was virtually unhittable in his hometown return, tossing a complete-game shutout to earn the victory and improve his season record to 4-1. Taking the ball in game two of the Friday doubleheader, the senior silenced the Dragons' lineup over seven innings, allowing just a single hit to secure the 7-0 victory.
Mellott needed just 81 pitches to navigate 24 batters faced. He racked up 10 strikeouts without issuing a single walk. He allowed zero runs and zero earned runs.
This outing marked the fewest hits allowed in a complete game by an Oilers pitcher since a no-hitter back in 2016.
