Palm Beach, Fla. – The University of Findlay women's golf team finished the first round and played its entire second round at the NCAA Division II National Championship which is being held at the Champion Course at PGA National in Palm Beach, Florida. Teams finished their first rounds, which were delayed due to weather, on Wednesday, May 13 and then played their second rounds, which began with a shotgun start in the afternoon.
Through two rounds, the Oilers, ranked No. 3 in the country by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), sit in sixth in the team standings at 607 (+31) after a first round score of 305 and second round score of 302.
Findlay was paced by senior Hayley Dye who put together one of the five best rounds in the field today and currently sits in fourth place on the individual leaderboard. Dye started her day on the tough 11th hole, which was the hardest hole of the day, averaging almost a full shot over par on the day. Dye birdied the hole to open play and also made birdie on 17 and 18. Should would finish with five birdies in her round to shoot 70 (-2) and post a 36-hole score of 144.
In T20, senior Ellie Yeazell had a consistent round, making bogey or worse on just three holes, to fire a 74 (+2). Combine that with her 76 (+4) from the first round and Yeazell has a 36-hole score of 150 (+6).
Junior Ashleigh Duflo, the fifth-ranked player in the country according to Clippd.com, is in T32 through two rounds with a score of 153 (+9). She finished her first round at 75 (+3) and the fired a 78 (+6) in the second round.
Sophomore Gracie James and freshman Emma Myers are in T70 and T76, respectively. James has rounds of 80 and 81 while Myers has posted rounds of 82 and 80.
Stroke play concludes with one more round tomorrow. At that point the field is whittled down to the top eight teams which will then start the medal match play portion of the tournament. This is the seventh year that Division II has used medal match play to decide its' champion. Findlay has been in the top eight, playing in medal match play in each of the previous six seasons.
