Buckhannon, W. Va – The University of Findlay men's soccer team opened their 2026 campaign on the road in Buckhannon, WV against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on August 27, 2026. After 90 minutes of play, the match saw Findlay come out on top 2-1 after a late second- half goal to secure the win. This now puts the Oilers at 1-0-0 to start the season, with the Bobcats falling to 0-1-0.
Senior Leo Egerer opened his account for the 2026 season with a header into the back post in the 15th minute, giving the Oilers an early 1-0 lead. The finish was assisted from a cross by senior Carson Oberski. Findlay would remain ahead as the game entered the half with Egerer's goal being the difference.
West Virginia Wesleyan would respond just four minutes into the second half with a 49th minute goal to even the match, 1-1. This would be just one of two shots in the second half for the Bobcats.
With just ten minutes remaining in the match, senior Tyler Pawlicki would put the Oilers ahead 2-1 in the 80th minute on another assist from Oberski. Findlay would hold on to earn their first win of the season in thrilling fashion.
Findlay would go on to outshoot West Virginia Wesleyan, 23-7 in the match, with eight of those shots coming from Egerer. Senior goalkeeper Ethan Hensley would finish the match with four saves.
The Oilers return to action for their first home match of the season this Sunday, Aug. 30 against Lock Haven.
