Findlay Wins Third Straight | Beat Lake Erie 3-1

Painesville, Ohio- The University of Findlay volleyball team remains in the win column on Saturday, Sep. 19 with a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 25-11) victory against the Lake Erie Storm. The win moves the Oilers to 6-5 on the year and 3-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Meanwhile, Lake Erie, who plays in the East Division of the conference, falls to 5-6 on the season and 3-2 in league action.

Findlay jumped out to an early 11-2 lead in the opening set and never looked back, earning a 25-17 victory. The second set proved to be a challenge for the Oilers as Lake Erie took an early 6-1 lead. Findlay battled back with a four-point run midway through the set to even the score at 17-17. The teams continued to trade points, with ties at 18-18, 19-19, 20-20, and 22-22. The Storm then scored three of the final four points to take the second set, 25-23, and even the match at one set apiece.

Findlay controlled the third and fourth sets wire-to-wire to secure the win and the match.

As a team Findlay hit .336 while holding Lake Erie to .156 including a 0.0 hitting percentage in the fourth set.

Senior Hannah Miller led the Oilers offensively with 21 kills while hitting .278. The Tiffin, Ohio native has now recorded double-digit kills in 10 of Findlay's 11 matches this season. Miller also posted a team-high 17 digs and added one ace.

Junior Stephanie Smith and fifth year Lauren Foerster also reached double figures in kills, with Smith recording 13 and Foerster adding 12. The duo combined for five blocks and nine digs.

At the net, senior Keira Turek turned in a career performance with a career-high seven blocks. She also contributed eight kills.

Seniors Zoya Winkelfoos and Kirsten Bomholt directed the Findlay offense, recording 25 and 20 assists, respectively.

Sophomore Victoria Mescher provided a spark from the service line, tallying a team-high five aces.

Findlay will conclude their weekend road trip, Sunday, Sep. 20 as they take on Clarion at 1pm.
