Lansing, Mich. – The University of Findlay women's golf team opened play at the Mary Fossum Invitational on Sunday, September 20, competing in a strong NCAA Division I field at Forest Akers Golf Course (West). The Oilers carded an opening-round team score of 313 (+25) on the par-72 course to sit in seventh place out of 15 teams.
Host team Michigan State is the headliner and premier program in the field. The Spartans finished ranked No. 23 nationally in the Clippd DI rankings at the end of the 2024–25 season and No. 38 in 2025–26, and were the only team in the 15-team field to advance to the NCAA Division I National Championship last season.
Additionally, Oakland made the postseason field, advancing to the NCAA Division I Regionals last season.
The rest of the field consists of Division I mid-major programs such as Delaware, Rutgers, FIU, Illinois State, and several Mid-American Conference schools, alongside Division II programs Grand Valley State and Findlay.
Senior Ellie Yeazell led the Oilers in the opening round, carding a 5-over 77 to place tied for 17th overall.
Freshman Lillian O'Grady and junior Gracie James were right behind, both posting rounds of 78 (+6) to finish the day tied for 27th place.
Sophomore Emma Myers recorded an 80 (+8) to sit tied for 42nd, while senior Ashleigh Duflo rounded out the Findlay lineup with an 82 (+10), placing her tied for 57th.
The Oilers sit just three strokes behind Bowling Green (+22) for sixth place heading into the second and final round of the event which had to preemptively cancel its' third round because of weather.
