Oilers Win 60-42 Over Hillsdale On Saturday

Box Score

The University of Findlay men's basketball team shut Hillsdale College down in the second half en route to earning a 60-42 victory over the Chargers on Saturday, January 2 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gives the Oilers an 8-3 record on the season with a 4-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers built a 32-26 advantage at the break thanks to some hot shooting by junior guard Nathan Hyde who drilled four first half triples. In the opening frame, Hyde accounted for 18 of Findlay's points and hit two three pointers in the final two minutes of the opening period to break a 26-26 tie.

Leading by six at the break, the Oilers came out in the second half and applied great defensive pressure and gradually built their lead as they allowed only 16 Hillsdale points in the final period.

Hyde led the way with 22 points, five steals four rebounds and three assists while freshman guard Aaron Robinson chipped in 12 points and five boards.

As a team, the Oilers shot only 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the floor but held the Chargers to a mere 31.9 percent (15-of-47) shooting clip. They also forced 21 turnovers and came up with 14 steals in the win.

The Oilers will be back in action again on January 7 when they host Wayne State University at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
