Oilers Soar Past Eagles 84-56

The University of Findlay men's basketball team built a 56-27 lead at the break against Ashland University and never looked back as they soared to an 84-56 win over the Eagles on Saturday, January 23 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 14-3 record on the season with a 10-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers first half success was fueled by the hot shooting hand of junior guard Nathan Hyde who lit up Ashland for 22 points in the opening period.

For the game, Hyde finished with a career-high 26 points on 7-of-11 shooting, which included a 4-of-7 showing from the three point line.

Hyde also drained all eight of his attempts from the charity stripe and added five rebounds, four steals and two assists in the win.

Senior guard Marcus Parker continued his stellar play of late, scoring 17 points to go along with five assists and a pair of steals.

Junior forward Tyler Sparks also reached double figures, chipping in 14 points, six rebounds and two assists during the game.

As a team, the Oilers hit 49.1 percent (27-of-55) of their field goal attempts and drained 7-of-16 (43.8%) shots from behind the three point line.

They also forced 22 turnovers and held the Eagles to a 38.8 percent (19-of-49) shooting clip.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Thursday, January 29 when they host Lake Superior State University at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
