Oilers Finish Findlay Classic With Record Breaking Day

The University of Findlay indoor track and field teams completed the final day of the Findlay Classic on Saturday, Jan. 28th in the Malcolm Athletic Center.

Raven Clay led the women's team with a first place, NCAA automatic qualifying time of 8.39 in the 60-meter hurdles while Jessica Rowland set an new school record with her second place, NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 49'03.00 in the shot put.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Clay, Christine Zimmermann, Catherine Wiemers and Alexa Stults placed first with a time of 4:01.97.

In other running events, Zimmermann and Jhazmyn Anderson took first and fourth in the 800-meter run with times of 2:16.98 and 2:23.20, respectively, while Stults finished second with a time of 5:21.12 in the mile run.  Kirsten Gaerke and Wiemers finished seventh and eighth in the 400-meter dash with times of 1:02.41 and 1:03.21, respectively.

Pam Showman was the other standout in women's field events with a second place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5'05.00.  Brittany Thomas (5'03.00) and Bethany Grimes (5'01.00) took fifth and sixth in the event. 

On the men's side, John Guagenti had record breaking performance for the Oilers, placing first in the 400-meter dash and setting the Malcolm Athletic Center record with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.11.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Guagenti, Shawnathan Fort, Curtis Smithey and Tim Sanders placed first with an NCAA provisional time of 3:19.66.

Dillion Webster and Cory Vales each had first place finishes.  Vales had an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 6'11.75 in the high jump while Webster finished with a time of 1:58.25 in the 800-meter run.  Joe Guerra took fourth in the 800-meter event with a time of 1:59.97.

In the shot put, Taylor Miller and Darren Bass each had NCAA provisional heaves of 54'02.75 and 53'07.75, respectively, with their fourth and fifth place finishes.  Shane Shockey finished first in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional mark of 16'00.75.

In other events, Sanders finished second (8.29) in the 60-meter hurdles, Shoayb Bascal took second (8:42.93) and Timothy Majoy took fifth (9:00.42) in the 3,000-meter run, Justin Eilerman finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run (2:31.20), and Smithey took fifth in the 600-meter run (2:24.75).
