Junior Justin Welch was named the Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, which released their yearly awards on May 16.

Welch, from Luckey, Ohio, became the No. 2 hammer thrower in Division II history with a mark of 239-3 (72.93m) at the Toledo Invitational. He owns the top 22 marks of the Division II season with titles at the Penn Relays, GLIAC Championships, Raleigh Relays and All-Ohio Championships.

He will throw both the hammer and the discus at the NCAA Championship.
