Findlay Splits With Ashland

Box Score 1

Game 1

Game 2

The University of Findlay softball team split a twin bill with Ashland University on Sunday, April 1, losing 6-1 in the opener before winning 13-1 in a five-inning game. The split gives the Oilers a 13-12 record on the season with a 4-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

In the first game, Grace Ammons took the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.

Courtney Dwyer and Brittany Dauterman had two and one hit(s), respectively, while Jenna Motuza was the lone Oilers player to cross the plate.

In the second game, Dauterman kept the Eagles to one run on five hits. She also fanned four batters without giving up a walk in her five-inning victory on the mound.

The Findlay offense started strong and refused to let up as the Oilers generated seven runs off of five hits and an Eagle error. With the bases loaded, Emily Reynolds' single to shortstop allowed Messersmith to score.

Tori Allen singled up the middle for two RBI's before giving the green light home from Taylor Bell with a single to center field. A Dwyer single plated Motuza as the final run of the frame.

With an 8-0 lead going into the top of the fourth, sophomore Jackie Messersmith homered for the first time this season.

The following frame, Messersmith's second homer of the day plated Dwyer and Motuza as Oilers captured the victory.

Messersmith, Dwyer, and Motuza all had two hits apiece while Messersmith and Allen had four runs-batted-in in the second contest of the day.

The Oilers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 4, as Findlay hosts GLIAC rival Wayne State for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
