Oilers Start Fast and Finish Strong Against Eagles

The University of Findlay men's basketball team jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game and then withstood several comeback attempts by Ashland University to earn a 69-52 win on Thursday, Feb. 14 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor and held a 40-26 advantage on the boards in the game.  They also held the Eagles to a 41.2 percent shooting clip and came away with seven steals during the victory, which led to 17 points.

Junior forward Greg Kahlig led the charge with 23 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting. 

Senior forward Brad Piehl had an outstanding day in the pivot for the Oilers as he racked up 18 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.  Piehl also added three steals and two assists, making 7-of-11 shot attempts.

Sophomore forward Jake Heagen also reached double figures with 11 points.  He also added six rebounds and three assists.

The Eagles were led by Evan Yates, who scored 18 points.  Cole Krizancic added 17 points as well.

The Oilers, who improved to 16-6 on the year with a 13-5 record in the GLIAC with the win, will host Lake Erie College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
