Oilers' Offense Arrives in Game 2 | Softball Splits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Clermont, Fla. – The University of Findlay softball team split their double-header on Tuesday, March 1 as they dropped the first game against Seton Hill by a final of 5-0 and won the second game 6-0 over Quincy.

Game 1 (Box Score)

In the first contest, Findlay only managed to get a runner to second base one time as the Seton Hill Griffins took the game by a 5-0 final. Those five runs were helped by the Oilers' five errors on defense.

Seton Hill scored three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the seventh for their total of five runs. Every one of those runs was unearned.

Freshman Hailey Bryan took the tough luck loss on the mound as she pitched seven innings and allowed five runs, none earned, on five hits.

Senior Brooke Scherger, freshman Erika Farst, and sophomore Lauren Yacks each had hits for Findlay.

Game 2 (Box Score)

In their second game, Findlay turned the tables and got strong pitching and good offense to take down Quincy with 6-0 shutout.

The Oilers wasted no time as they got on the board in the first frame when freshman Rebecca Harvey, who walked with two outs, scored from first on a single to right center from junior Lauren Trumpler.

Findlay stretched the lead in the third when Scherger, with one out, doubled to left center field. She later scored on an error by the Quincy shortstop. Trumpler followed that run with a single, scoring Farst to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead. The lead reached 4-0 when Harvey was able to score on a wild pitch.

The final Findlay runs came in the sixth on a double from Trumpler, scoring Scherger, and in the seventh on a triple by sophomore Amanda Delmonte tripled, scoring sophomore Cassidy Ghesquiere.

Scherger had a fantastic day as she finished the day 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Sophomore Chelsea McManaway pitched very well in the second game and improved to 3-0 after the complete game shutout. She threw seven innings and allowed no runs on five hits. She struck out four and walked three.

Findlay will be back on the field Wednesday, March 2 at 9:00am and 11:00am when they will take on Mo.-St. Louis and University of Mary.
