Box Score 2 The University of Findlay softball team continued their spring trip in Clermont, Florida on Friday, March 4th as they defeated Nyack College 7-0 to improve to 6-5 on the season.
The Oilers used a big sixth inning and limited the Warriors to just one hit on the day. On the mound, a pair of University of Findlay athletes pitched a gem for the shutout. Junior Jenna Inman got the win after going two innings, giving up no hits, two walks and striking out one and freshman Hailey Bryan came in to finish out the game giving up one hit and striking out two.
After a scoreless first and second inning, Findlay cranked out five hits and six runs in the third inning. With one out, senior Brooke Scherger and sophomore Cassidy Ghesquiere each singled, followed by freshman Rebecca Harvey getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sophomore Kelley Cejer walked to bring in the first run. Then, junior Lauren Trumpler cleared the bases with a grand slam to take a 5-0 lead. The final run of the inning would come from junior Kelsey Borders single to score sophomore Destinie Keeton after she walked and stole second to put the Oilers ahead 6-0.
The final run of the game came in the fifth inning, when junior Katie Dunphy doubled to right field and would later score on a passed ball to put the Oilers up 7-0.
Dunphy finished 1-for-2 at the plate, Ghesquiere ended the game 2-for-4, and Trumpler went 1-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in.
The Oilers are back on the field for their final day of their spring trip on Saturday, March 5th against Stonehill College at 1pm and University of Indianapolis at 5pm.
