The University of Findlay volleyball team won their fifth straight match to open the 2017 season with a 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst University on Sep. 8 in Erie, Pa.

Junior Amanda Winner once again had a strong match and nearly missed on recording her third double-double of the year with 19 kills and nine digs. She also hit .300 and added a block in the win.

Sophomore Shelby Kin reached the double digit kill plateau with 11 while sophomore Jenna Delarber had nine kills and three blocks.

Sophomore Molly Hammersmith recorded eight kills, sophomore Izzy Murphy had six kills and junior Hailee Olson provided 52 assists, six digs, three blocks, two kills and two aces.

Junior Kara Scherger paced the defense with 19 digs.

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow when they face St. Michael's and Gannon in Erie, Pa.
