Yellow Jackets Early Run Dooms Oilers in Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell behind early and failed to come back on Saturday, Dec. 5 on the road against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. The Oilers lost by a score of 91-75 and fall to 1-1 on the year while Cedarville picks up their first win and are also 1-1.

Findlay trailed 15-10 with just under four minutes left in the first quarter, but a 9-0 run to close the frame by Cedarville gave the home team a 24-10 lead. From that point on, the closest the Oilers got was nine points, but the home Yellow Jackets opened up a 20-point lead by halftime at 47-27.

The Oilers outscored Cedarville 27-20 in the final frame but it was not enough as the Yellow Jackets went on to their first win.

Cedarville feasted on Findlay mistakes, forcing the Oilers into 20 turnovers and turning those mistakes into 23 points-off-turnovers. On the flip side, Cedarville had just 13 turnovers which turned into only seven points for Findlay.

The Oilers shot 41% from the floor, making 22-of-54 including 8-of-23 from deep. Cedarville was slightly better, making 25-of-57 that included 10-of-29 from beyond the arc.

Junior Amber Schweiger was the leading scorer for the Oilers as she scored 12 points on the strength of eight made free-throws. She also had a team-high four assists.

The other Oilers player in double-figures was junior Sydney Kin who scored ten points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Kin had four rebounds and two blocked shots.

Senior Allison Utterback proved to be a threat from deep as she scored nine points, all of which came on made threes. She also led the Oilers defensively, collecting three steals. Freshman Kendyl Mick also scored nine points.

Findlay junior Bridget Landin, coming off a big double-double performance against Hillsdale in the season-opener, scored eight points on 3-of-7 from the floor. She led the Oilers with six rebounds and also chipped in an assist and a steal.

The Oilers are set to take on Tiffin University at home on Friday, Dec. 11. That game will tip off at 1:00 pm.
