Cincinnati, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams competed on the second day of the Oliver Nikoloff Invite hosted by the University of Cincinnati on Saturday, April 2. In a field full of Division I talent, the Oilers men finished third in the team standings while Findlay's women finished in sixth.
Men
Sophomore Eliot Cummings took runner-up in the long jump on Saturday. Cummings had his best jump of the young outdoor season on his first and only mark of the night, a jump that measured 6.96m (22'10"). Finishing close behind Cummings was fellow freshman Payton Shakur who also had his only mark on his first attempt, reaching a distance of 6.85m (22'5.75"). Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) indoor Freshman of the Year, Chris Campbell, took fifth by jumping a distance of 6.77m (22'2.5") giving the Oilers three of the top five finishers in the event.
Shakur also competed in the high jump where he took runner-up by clearing a height of 2.00m (6'6.75"). Junior Cameron Stine and junior Chris Cooper tied for fourth by clearing a height of 1.90m 6'2.75").
Taking second in the triple jump was Findlay senior Martin Etsey. His first attempt of the night measured 13.86m (45'5.75") and was his best, coming up just two-hundredths of a meter shy of Miami (OH) Dawson Wervey.
In the men's discus throw, sophomore Hunter Tresnan-Rieghard had a strong showing, finished runner-up in the event behind Ryan Smith of Miami (OH). Tresnan-Rieghard saw his fifth attempt of the day sail 48.10m (157'9"). Taking sixth in the event was senior Max Prenger whose fifth attempt was also his best, a toss that measured 45.08m (147'10").
The Oilers got a third place finish from senior Gabe Makin in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.94m (16'2.5"), coming up just shy of his personal-best in the event but still meeting the NCAA DII provisional mark in the event.
On the track, freshman Dylan Reason was runner-up in the 400m dash with a time of 49.64 while senior Lane Kolb was fifth with a 50.45.
Women
The Oilers top finisher of the day was senior Savannah Amato who took top spot in the pole vault, flying past the NCAA provisional mark in the event. Amato, who did not enter the competition until 3.71m, took first place by clearing a height of 4.01m (13'1.75"). Taking third in the event was junior Morgan England who was able to clear 3.86m (12'8") while junior teammate Lindsey Kluesener reached a height of 3.71m (12'2") to finish seventh.
Junior Paige Emnett finished with a throw of 43.02m (141'1") in the discus throw which was good for seventh. She also participated in the shot put, finishing tenth with a mark of 12.66m (41'6.5).
Senior Michaela Butler ran in the 200m dash and was able to finish in a time of 25.36, good for seventh.
Findlay is back in action next weekend, April 7-9, when they will send athletes to the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tennessee.
