Hammond, Ind. - The University of Findlay volleyball team traveled west to meet up with the other 37 schools that make up the Midwest Region for the 15th Annual Midwest Region Crossover which is held at the Hammond SportsPlex in Hammond, Indiana on Oct. 13-14. The event is the nation's largest collegiate volleyball event held at one venue and features teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Oilers concluded play today, Oct. 14.
The Oilers faced former GLIAC foe Michigan Tech in their final match. A late game comeback from the Huskies gave Findlay a 3-2 loss (13-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13). With the loss Findlay falls to 14-6 and remains at 7-3 in the G-MAC. Michigan Tech improves to 9-11 and remains 5-4 in the GLIAC.
The Oilers dominated the first set, out hitting the Huskies .286 to .087. Despite having the momentum heading into the second set the Huskies took advantage of UF's errors to tie the match at 1-1. The third set saw back-and-forth action which ultimately tied at 19 but the Oilers front row put away the match to give Findlay the advantage going into the fourth set. The Huskies put on an offensive display in the fourth set hitting an impressive .394 to force a fifth set. The Oilers took the early advantage in the fifth set, leading 7-1 but too many errors by Findlay let the Huskies back into the match.
